Le marchand de sable

(ritual 2)
Eyes cisps, concrete, tempera-painted wooden base, 2021/24

The cisps, the sand of the eyes, as an extract of what the person sees throughout the day, makes up the mosaic of 121 cement cubes. The result of a three-year harvest, the cisps here take the place of sand, an indispensable component for making concrete.
The work refers to a very popular story in France, Germany and England, in which a little man scatters sand from the desert into the eyes of children and people every night, favouring beautiful dreams. Invariably some remains in the corners of the eyes in the morning.
